Bunky Green - Places We've Never Been (Vanguard). I just found a sealed copy to replace my less-than-pristine copy of an album I really love.

Charlie Christian / Wardell Gray - Tribute From Sweden (Fran Staterna). A Boris Rose production, purporting to be from Sweden. Some rare airchecks here, mostly by Benny Goodman small groups from different periods.

Your post has prompted me to order a copy of this, long overdue. Before it disappears again off the face of the Earth..

The Schwindt is good. The Meinert that he reissued is great. Bertil Strandberg "Cirrus" coming down the pike soon enough.

Now spinning:

Hank Mobley - Hank - (Blue Note 1560, Toshiba Japanese pressing)

The Meinert sounds (to my ears) more derivative - none the worse for that but it has a heavy and obvious Trane-like sound. Both are exemplary reissues. Clearly a label to watch

NP, first spin of......

Julius Hemphill --- Roi Boye & The Gotham Minstrels-----( Sackville )

Lou Bennett et son Orchestre --------Enfin !--------( RCA France)

French edition of this lively album recorded in Paris in 1963. Rene Thomas is on guitar. Curiously Jane (sp) is credited to Arnett Coleman (sp) . I've not previously come across that spelling of Coleman's first name.

It is a bit derivative, at least at first, but like many things it doles out its charms and originality over time.

Bill Evans "portrait in jazz" (riverside, USA mono) bought this today from a friend who recently found the first "small label" issue so sold me his second (circa 1962?) mono issue for a good price.  Interesting to see the original and second issue side by side.  Besides the small DG label on the first issue there is also the clearer photographs on both the front and rear.  Anyway this second issue is super pristine and I actually have never owned this session before.

Blue Mitchell "out of the blue" (riverside, mono small label DG USA). Great album...a rare discogs bargain from a few months ago.
