Jimmy Ponder - Down Here on the Ground (Milestone, 1984)

Excellent.

The photo on the cover is the surface of Mars, taken by Viking 2 in 1976.  I think it's hilarious that they added the guitar in the foreground.  :P

Barney Kessel - Kessel Plays Standards Volume 2 (Contemporary). 10" record with the red cover that looks mint but plays like a bowl of Rice Crispies. Nice mellow record. This is one of those sessions that I always wanted to buy (on CD) but never got around to.

BBB & BBB (Dan Lao & Li Daiguo) - Hu Nian An Yu [Old Heaven Books]

I wish I could find a reasonably priced source for Old Heaven Books releases in the US.

now playing: Koralle - Fonografle

a producer from Bologna, with heavy jazz influences as does much of the releases from the German, Melting Pot Music.

Cafe Oto stocked them briefly. I only bought this which is excellent, wish I'd bought some others. Will have to make do with downloads

Lester Bowie - Rope-A-Dope (Muse, 1976)

Stanley Turrentine - Never Let Me Go (Blue Note, 1963)

I really think that this is an underrated gem even within Turrentine's and Scott's catalogues. It has such a heavy hit of gospel and blues to it, but, over and above that, the timing is so stretched out. It's amazing.
