"Golden Organ Favourites" - Lenny Dee- Decca

Now, I'm a HUGE Jimmy Smith aficianado, so I didn't have really high expectations for Dee, since I barely remembered him from when I was a kid.

Imagine my surprise when he majorly swung! Yes, indeedy [as they used to say].

This was recorded live and is really interesting. It isn't anything like what Smith does, of course, but I like it.

The track list is:

Side 1

April in Paris

Twilight Time

White Silver Sands

Mr Lucky [The TV theme]

The Happy Organ [which is the only one I remember hearing before]

Tico Tico

Side 2

Patricia, It's Patricia [heh heh]

The Jitterbug Waltz

Honky Tonk [bill Doggett's HUGE hit]

Tequila [remember the Champ's version? This is much better.]

You Can't Be True Dear

Plantation Boogie

Yes, 'Fickle Sonance' is a beauty. Tommy Turrentine sounds just great on this session. Love the LP cover art too.

Currently spinning:

'Bill Russo in London' (UK Columbia Lansdowne, mono). With the London Jazz Orchestra, recorded 1962.

Clarke-Boland Big Band 'Handle With Care !' (French Bel-Air pressing. Probably way better than the US Atlantic).

Billy Bauer 'Anthology' (Interplay)

The album has various tracks recorded by Bauer between 1959 and 1969.

Side 1 is a live trio date (with John Sherin on bass and Charles Kay on drums), side 2 has seven solo tracks!

Wish Bauer had recorded more albums under his name!

Fine, fine record. I just checked the Cadence website to see if they still had copies available - thought others here might be interested - but they're sold out. :(
