Slide Hampton Octet 'Sister Salvation' (Atlantic mono deep groove). Brownie - yes it does have the Artie Shaw sleeve note !

Good, you have the original edition then! Great session!

Now listening to:

The Swingville All Stars 'Rockin' In Rhythm' (Swingville red label)

with Taft Jordan, Hilton Jefferson, Al Sears, Don Abdney, Wendell Marshall, Gus Johnson! Oh yeah :tup

The Slide Hampton session is absolutely FANTASTIC, in fact more than an octet with euphonium and tuba, huge sounding group. You were spot on there !

The Londons are superb sounding LPs. Usually in my experience significantly better than the Atlantic/Jubilee etc. issue equivalents from the US.

Yes Brownie, the flimsy sleeves tend to fall apart pretty easy. Miraculously though, this one has survived its 45 years in great shape !

Now spinning:

Lee Morgan 'Sixth Sense' (BN Liberty blue/white stereo)

Horace Silver 'Horace-Scope' (BN 47W63rd DG mono)

Freddie Hubbard 'Breaking Point' (BN NY USA mono)

Clare Fischer 'Easy Livin''

British Jazz Workshop pressing, originally on Revelation. Recorded in 1963; this pressing, made in 1967, is mono. Pretty late for dedicated mono issue, isn't it? Perhaps the original recording was in mono.

"Walk on the Wild Side" - Jimmy Smith

This was the album that introduced me to Smith and I have been an admirer of his work ever since.

A moment of silence will be observed by me on the 6th, the anniversary of Jimmy's birth.
