Picked these up today at an atypical St. Louis outlet... all minty fresh mono's for a song. :tup

Shelly Manne - My Fair Lady - Contemporary (M 3527, not the usual C listed in the guides)

Shelly Manne - Bells Are Ringing - Contemporary (C 3559)

Andre Previn - Pal Joey - Contemporary (C 3543)

Andre Previn - Jazz King Size - Contemporary (M 3570) Love the cover art on this one... judging from his roars, my three year old likes it too.

For some reason, I've given the Manne / Previn release short thrift. But after tonight's extended exposure I'll have to keep an eye out for this duo. Any recs? I left Previn's Vernon Duke, Gigi and Kern in the racks, as well as Manne's West Coast Sound, Li'l Abner, and Peter Gunn among others (all mono's if I remember right). If I had known I'd enjoy these this much I would have grabbed them all!

"Quentin Jackson" recorded february 1960 in Paris (Ducretet Thomson).

w. Quentin Jackson (tb, voc), Clark Terry (tp), Art Simmons(p), Elek Bacsik(g), Michel Gaudry (b) & Kenny Clarke (dm).

Is this the only album under his name ?

That's the only one Lord has in the discography.

Found this rare item a few months ago.

BirdandDizzy, for your information, Bacsik remains in background through the whole session!

Yeah, I just love this album. Bacsik his really great on the background and very good harmony with the piano.

There is also other recording with the same personnel (you also found the EP) :

"Art Simmons" and his orchestra, recorded 9 november 1959 for Ducretet Thomson

w. Clark Terry, Eric Dixon (fl, sax), Art Simmons (p), Elek Bacsik (g), Michel Gaudry (b), Kenny Clarke (dm) and Billie Poole (voc).

So sad, Billie died this year in May.

My friend Art Simmons is proud of this album and that's one of the few albums where you can hear -even in a bigger band- the trio of the Mars Club...

(--Art, if you read this message...!--)
