Lee Konitz - Very Cool (Japanese Verve/Polydor)

I just played this same record yesterday! :)

Now playing: Bunky Green - The Places We've Never Been (Vanguard). Apparently, this was issued on CD but I've never seen it on a shelf, new or used. It's one drawback is the twangy bass sound of the late 70s/early 80s that just drives me nuts. Twang, twung, twang, twung... ugh.

Played last night but couldn't post: Junior Cook - Somethin's Cookin' (Muse). What a nice date. I really like this one for some reason. I have had it on CD for many years and it doesn't get in the player often enough, especially since I started spinning vinyl again, so it's good to have this on record and get back to enjoying it.

Jan Garbarek / Bobo Stenson Quartet - Dansere

Lovely.

I listened to Witchi-Tai-To earlier today. Not sure which one I like better; they're so different.

Dansere for me. Great album. Such a finely tuned quartet - all their names should be on the cover

I've been listening to:

Barney Kessel - Soaring

A sterling, swinging trio record with Monty Budwig (b) and Jake Hanna (d)

SHORT WAVE & SET SAIL FOR THE SUN - Karlheinz Stockhausen, comp. Performed by The Negative Band. Finnadar LP. 1975

I believe Braxton has expressed his appreciation for Stockhausen, and one can hear some Braxtonian elements in this earlier recording, for example, the musicians each have a radio in "Short Wave" that they may play in lieu of their instrument. The musical notation for direction of the players somewhat resembles Braxton's method at times. BTW, Earl Howard plays alto sax in the Band.
