John Carisi / Cecil Taylor - Into the Hot (Impulse). I just re-read Leroi Jones / Amiri Baraka's review of this record from back in the day. He rightly praises the Cecil Taylor tracks and discusses them at some length. He then dismisses the beautiful John Carisi tracks with one sentence. He also is pretty condescending toward Gil Evans, whose decision to turn his second Impulse album over to Taylor and Carisi probably cost him his contract with that label.

Obscure but great down home Detroit blues, many recorded by Joe Von Battle.

King LP

Never saw the cover of the King LP, only the CD. The music is interesting, but maybe I´m wrong, but somehow it sounds to me that if Hank already might have some respiratory problems, he sometimes sounds short of breath on that. Anyway, I like Hank´s "round sound" more, the way he sounded until the mid 60´s . I have most of his post 65 albums also, but dont´listen to them as often as I might listen to let´s say "Soulstation" or "Workout" or the early stuff from the 50´s .

12.-Don-Rendell-Ian-Carr-Quintet-%E2%80%

From the new Jazzman Rendell/Carr box, just arrived. Mine is no. 946 of 1000, can it really be almost sold out in less than a week. :o

‘Shades of Blue’ first on deck, beautiful stereo pressing, can’t fault it. The LP sleeve is very nicely done with the flipback but suspect that the original artwork may not have been available as not quite as sharp as the orig. Otherwise, can’t fault it. :tup

Nice sturdy box to hold the LPs in as well. Vinyl reissue of the decade !
