I'd like to hear this in a contemporary rendition, maybe. This seems a little forced, but maybe that's me and/or the time/place?

The Naxos series is worth hearing.

with 30 or so years in between, that sounds interesting, thanks for the pointer. The writing on this Phillips date sounds fine, but the playing doesn't sound "lived in"

Brilliant. About as good as it gets piano-trio-wise, IMO.

John Coates, Jr. - After the Before (Omnisound, 1978)

Coates was jazz's georgic poet.

Lester Young ‘Pres’ (Esquire). Mystery live lo-fi recording and no sleeve. Still, at £3 a good find.

Quick research indicates that this LP has material also put out on Ambrosia from 1952 Birdland recordings with Jesse Drakes and Wynton Kelly. Boris Rose?

This is not a copy of the Charlie Parker Records LP of the same name?

This one's a dance date, iirc, not at Birdland.

Looks like it, thanks for that. Strange - those Charlie Parkers were put out by a small label called Egmont in the UK so not sure how this one ended up on Esquire.
