Been playing my way through another Mosaic Select that will never see the light of day :)

The complete Muse recordings of Richard "Groove" Holmes.

On LP

Good vibrations

(and on CD)

Hot tat

The first four would (just) fit nicely on two CDs. The last is over 47 minutes. So that's a pretty good bunch for a Select. And the music is great!

(And it's another set that would require Mosaic to get away from its B/W formula - particularly the photo of the delectable Alicia Lashley.)

The complete Lou Donaldson fifties BN recordings

On LP

Quartet, quintet sextet - BN Toshiba

Wailing with Lou - BN Toshiba

LD+3 - BN King GXK

Sunny side up - BN King K18P

Midnight sun - BN Rainbow

on CD

Swing & soul - BN TOCJ

Lou takes off - BN TOCJ

Blues walk - BN McM

Lightfoot - BN JRVG

The time is right - BN JRVG

Gravy train - BN (presumably McM but it don't say)

I think the only part of this set I haven't got is the material with Clifford Brown, which I ought to get sometime. Perhaps an alternative take or two.

Gene Ammons - Blue groove - recorded by Argo but only issued on Prestige

Philly Joe Jones - Drum song - Galaxy - with Harold Land, Blue Mitchell & Slide Hampton

Slide Hampton - Sister Salvation - Atlantic (London Jazz Series UK) mono - I've thought this series had the coolest looking label ever since I bought my first MJQ albums back in 1960.

John Coltrane--Expression (Impulse)

I am puzzled why this copy of Impulse 120 is instead numbered 91288. It has the orange black label, ABC Paramount.

Record club copy?

In the fine print, it says on the jacket Manufactured by Capitol Records. There's no Van Gelder stamp on the vinyl. The record sounds terrific anyway.

Ralph Towner with Glen Moore, Solos/Trios (ECM)

Rypdal/Vitous/DeJohnette, To Be Continued (ECM)

Nice, as great as ECM cd's sound the good vinyl editions have this feel to them, in that you feel the music more than your just listening to it.

It really hit me again this weekend listening to:

My local HPB got in a group of ECMs in pristine condition, so I've bought a few. To Be Continued sounds amazing. As does the solo Steve Kuhn, Ecstasy.
