Piano Playhouse (VSOP)

Album recorded in 1957 for Mode but not released until VSOP added this to its catalogue.

The piano players are Carl Perkins, Jimmy Rowles, Paul Smith, Gerald Wiggins and Lou Levy.

I wasn't aware of this one. One to get. Thanks Brownie.

Les Baxter - Master of the World OST - VJ (rainbow, mono)

Les Baxter - Barbarian! - AIP (mono)

Bet those are neat! He did some cool scores.

"Master of the World" is Baxter in his more grandiose, melodic mode, sort of along the lines of his Capitol album "Space Escapade," but with more drama and spectacle.

"Barbarian" is closer to the exotica albums but it doesn't quite sound like those. There is a march that shows up at the beginning and end that is kind of annoying (I'm not into military scores), but the rest of it has an impressionistic exotic sound.

Sonny Rollins - Volume 2 - BN NYC- perhaps slightly overlooked in Sonny's output , perhaps it is a shade behind the likes of VV, Newk's Time etc

You're right, Clunky. This one used to be really major in my youth - hear of it rarely now. Really stellar line-up - Horace Silver, Monk, J J, Art Blakey IIRC.
