Posted 23 May 2005 (edited) Mal Waldron Trio: Impressions (OJC/New Jazz) ← A true classic... though I never understood why they broke up the suite on Side 1, throwing section two onto Side 2 and all. Edited 23 May 2005 by clifford_thornton

Posted 23 May 2005 (edited) Richie Kamuca- Richie - Concord - wonderful session Jaki Byard- Sunshine of my soul- Prestige ( recent purchase from Mosaic on 150gm vinyl) weight of vinyl seems ordinary but pressing in this series are very quiet- recording quality of this particular session is a little muddy. Zoot Sims - Plays George Handy- MFP Mono-( 1958?) Zoot multi-tracks with wonderful John williams in support. Music not quite as wacky as you'd expect from hearing Boyd Raeburns versions of this material Edited 23 May 2005 by Clunky

Posted 25 May 2005 Oxfam is well worth a look. Apparently they now have rare LP auction lists, thanks to the various donations from the punters. Currently spinning Sam Rivers 'Contours' BN NY USA and also the corresponding LP (LP 3) on the Mosaic set for these tracks. Interesting comparisson ! Before that it was Carmen McRae/Clarke-Boland 'November Girl' on Black Lion.
Posted 25 May 2005 Now John Williams Trio Emarcy 10" LP, highly enjoyable despite torque problem? on the inner grooves ( last track on each side) in which the tuning of the piano sonds decidely off the mark.

Posted 26 May 2005 Jean-Philippe Blin Trio (feat. Francois Mechali on bass)... nicely melodic piano trio on Futura, sounds a little like that Steve Kuhn on BYG. Doesn't hurt that there's a naked chick on the cover, either...

Posted 26 May 2005 Having just finished reading "DIZZY: The Life & Times of Dizzy Gillespie" by Donald Maggin, I've been playing quite a few sides, mostly on CD, to reinforce aurally what the author has been stating. Anyway, this prize recording is one I have on LP only. It's the "Reunion Band" that performed and recorded in '68, and it's a real cooker with an especially fabulous version of Diz's groundbreaking "Things to Come".
