Ike Quebec and John Hardee--The Complete Blue Note Forties Recordings

Side 1.

I ended up spending the night with this whole set yesterday. What a great one! It seems to be rarely mentioned among people's favorite Mosaics, but it just shot way up on my list. Just good old fashioned fun. John Hardee is just a fine Texas Tenorman, and Ike Quebec gives no surprisese playing with some smokin' rhythm sections with Milt Hinton. Cuscuna and Morgenstern put a hell of a booklet together, too. It ranks up at the top with the Max Harrison booklet for the Albert Ammons/Meade Lux Lewis box and Larry Kart's Tristano/Konitz/Marsh box. I found this set for only $100 on an ebay auction not long ago. If you can find it, grab it!

Great stuff. This material was out on cd in Japan, and in fact one of the lps sounds much better in the Japanese cd version than on the Mosaic.

Grachan Moncur Mosaic Select - Picked up in the sale. So glad I got it, sounds much better than the Conn CDs. It will be good to load this one on the I-Pod.

Don't miss the Grachan whilst it's still available !

I grabbed it a month or two ago, but haven't listened to it much yet. Need to dive in ...

NP: JJJ, disk #5

Oh hell, I just landed on track 7: In a Mellow Tone. Something just entered the building!

I've naught heard this tune in it's 1970s, diamond studded glory before. Alright! My heart goes out to Duke Ellington tonight!
