Chuck Nessa on Charles "Baron" Mingus, 1945-49

Thanks. Great interview and a great CD.

I really like the Uptown approach to this type of material. I recently acquired the Allen Eager CD and have long had Charlie Parker in Canada.

What other CDs reflecting this high degree of historical interest and care has Uptown issued?

What about the Allen Eager? That's very fine. Not exactly historical but very, very good if you love Tad Dameron are the 2 Dameronia LPs Uptown put out. They're just fantastic. The arranging and the playing are fantastic.

sidewinder: "Who would have ever guessed that Mingus did a tune named after sleepy Ashby-de-la-Zouche, Leicestershire ! "

He didn't. Though there was a record of that name, it was not a Mingus disc.

Also, the Dolphins of Hollywood label is detailed in the booklet that comes in the CD.
