Big John Patton - Eagle Eye Blues - Live from Austin Texas - Excellence Records Cat: 1024

861793.jpg

Anyone have any information on this? Is it good? Available?

Available from CD Baby. Read what SoulStream said in the sleeve notes, which are printed on the CD Baby site.

Personally, I wouldn't be without it.

It's a special kind of recording I think, and needs to be appreciated in the context expressed in the liner notes.

When is Soul Connection coming out on CD?

blame Bill Gates....he never dug John Patton...was always a freddie roach head so I heard

On a serious note...my browser opened it ( mind you I am trialing the Beta version 3 .4) :rhappy:

That's not entirely true.

Gates used to worship Big John but never forgave him for hiring James Blood Ulmer and has had a vendetta against him ever since.

just thought i'd mention this briefly after the grant green tv disappointment, i found it interesting but i guess that's disputable... in that thesis on patton it's mentioned he was a songwriter/session musician/otherwise involved for dionne warwick (?) and for the shirelles on scepter records... now according to this credit listing (similar also at the library of congress data base...)

http://www.discogs.com/Shirelles-Will-You-.../release/664249

patton is the composer of "voice of experience", "big john" ( :) ) and "putty (in your hands)" , the latter being somewhat of a standard actually (covered by the yardbirds, you can hear it here http://www.lastfm.de/music/The+Yardbirds/_...n+Your+Hands%29 )

2) Are you sure the unissued DIW session is forthcoming?

Bertrand.

The original post by Soulstation is almost 5 years old, and I don't know that he's going to post on the board any more. If it's forthcoming, it's had a long gestation!

Or is the session "This One's For J.A."? There have also been references to a third unreleased DIW session on this board somewhere.

Was there a third DIW session that remained unreleased? Or was this the 'One For JA' session?

Patton's widow told me there was a third session. It has been a long time since I spoke to her. Is Ed Cherry on both? I could ask him since we are FB friends, although we have never met :)

Bertrand.

PS - it may be listed in Lord.
