A nice Quincy album can be had for only $7.99 as a download from Tower Records Downloads.

In order to get it you have to have your Windows Media Player set up for some kind of security bullshit and when you try to download (after paying) you will get this message:

If it were not for this CD reissue's extreme brevity (under 31 minutes), it would receive a much higher rating. One of arranger/composer Quincy Jones' finest recordings, this 1961 set features such top players as trumpeters Clark Terry, Thad Jones and Freddie Hubbard, Julius Watkins on French horn, and most notably altoist Phil Woods in several big-band settings. Jones' three originals include "Quintessence" and "For Lena and Lennie"; plus, there are reworkings of "Invitation" and pieces by Benny Golson and Thelonious Monk, among others. The music swings, and the solos are logical outgrowths of the arrangements; if only more than one piece were over 4½ minutes long. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide

I'm not much of a downloading type of guy, but yes this is a very nice Q album, used to be available in print from Verve!

[Teasing the Korean]

I recently found a CD titled Birth of a Band Volume 2.  It has the same artwork as Birth of a Band, except that the background is yellow and not red.  

This apparently was not an LP, but is a collection of various odds and ends, mostly singles, that Q recorded while at Mercury.  Most of these are novelty tracks, and overall, this album is very disappointing compared to its namesake.

I believe the Lena and Lennie title is a reference to Lena Horne and her husband Lennie Hayton
