I don't think I am born on the same day (June 26) as any jazz musicians but for a bit of interesting strange but true factoid. I am born on the same day as my father, grandfather, a great-uncle and 2nd cousin and my great-grandfather was born by 10 minutes a day earlier.

Thanks for the link. Though Chambers and Russo appear to be born on Jun 25th.

For the 26th they have Dave Grusin *1934 Reggie Workman *1937

For my mother's birthday of April 6th there is

Gene Bertoncini *1937 Bill Hardman *1933 Gerry Mulligan *1927 Andre Previn *1929 Charlie Rouse *1924 Manfred Schoof *1936 Horace Tapscott *1934 Art Taylor *1929 Randy Weston *1926

For my middle brother. Nothing for my youngest.

Sept 19th

Muhal Richard Abrams *1930 Lol Coxhill *1932 Wolfgang Lackerschmidt *1956

Another interesting strange but true factoid I forgot to mention to my family affinity to June 26th. All of us where the first born child and the year we where born had a 5 in the last digit of the year and with at least my immediate part of the family born 30 years apart. Ex 1875, 1905, 1935, 1965.

Since I will be turning 38 I ruin the 30 year apart part since I don't have any children at the moment.

You can no change the channel from the Outer Limits. ;)

When Andrew Hill turns 66 this June 30th, I will be exactly half his age. I don't know what it is about sharing a birthdate with someone you admire ... you just feel (sound of Fred Rogers' voice) "special." ;)

Wasn't Hill born in Haiti? I'm trying to imagine that country in the 30's.

Just one shared-jazz b-day, but two other musical ones:

1905 Tommy Benford jazz drummer

1935 Dudley Moore London England, actor (10, Arthur, Bedazzled, 6 Weeks)

1944 Bernard Worrell US keyboardist (Funkadelic-Cosmic Slop)

More shared b-days:

1903 Eliot Ness - (just try to forget Kevin Costner in that role though)

1922 Erich Hartmann German WWII pilot (downed 352 Russian aircrafts) - 352!

1933 Jayne Mansfield - oh yeah!

1968 Ashley Taylor Judd - oh YEAH!

Historical Events:

1775 Battle of Lexington & Concord-American Revolution (the "Shot Heard Round the World")

1909 Joan of Arc, declared a saint

1967 Beatles sign a contract to stay together for 10 years (they don't)

1971 Charles Manson sentenced to life (Sharon Tate murder)

1991 - Michael Bolton released "Time, Love and Tenderness."

1993 Branch Dividians/FBI 51 day standoff in Waco TX ends with the deaths of 4 FBI Agents and numerous deaths from suicide of the cult members

1995 Truck bomb outside Alfred P Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, kills 168 & injures 500

Thanks to Jim's link, I have a few more, in addition to the previously mentioned Ellington:

George Adams *1940

Ray Barretto *1929

Duke Ellington *1899

Big Jay McNeely *1928

Charlie Parker *1920

Jean Toots Thielemans *1922

Why would the newspaper I read list Duke but not Bird?

I like that Toots is in there. A master of melody. B)
