Now, how about Clifford Jordan (1565) and Smithville (1594) and Club Baby Grand (1528/1529)? Don't believe any of those have ever seen U.S. issue. Michael Fitzgerald Posted August 31, 2004 Report Share Posted August 31, 2004 Now - hmm. Well, it's an interesting record. But if you're looking for Dialogue or Components, this ain't it. At points it's actually a lot like an adventurous rock record c. 1969 made by musicians instead of wannabes. If I presented it from that angle, rather than a jazz album, it might be more appealing to someone. The vocals are not of the Donald Byrd band & voices variety. There's lyrics. You got all kinds of other things you might not expect from a Blue Note record: wah wah guitar, etc. I do have an interest in the jazz/rock border, especially pioneering efforts in that area, so this record is important. sidewinder Posted September 1, 2004 Report Share Posted September 1, 2004 The Hutcherson is an interesting one - reminds me quite a bit of the Eddie Gales in terms of its style. Very much of its period, with almost a 'folk' feel. A big plus is that Harold Land is featured prominently and any Hutcherson/Land is worth having in my book. I agree the stuff should be in print...but it would be nice to see the stuff that's never hit CD or, better yet, never had any U.S. issue or reissue of any sort!!! I will be thrilled to buy Contours, a great record that stands with the best BN sessions, imso. I was hoping for Where Is Brooklyn as well, as MC indicated it could happen soon.
