Anyone have anything to say about Good Time Jazz?

If you're into classic New Orleans jazz and some 'stomping' music, then there are some very good titles on the label, in particular those Kid Ory ones. Any one of the following albums would give you a good sampling of the music.

My personal favourites are the George Lewis Beverly Cavern Sessions, especially vol.1 which has a beautiful version of George's signature song Burgundy Street Blues.

Also this one for some piano solos: Luckey & The Lion - Harlem Piano

I would mention the Lu Watters and Yerba Buena Jazz Band which has a different style from the New Orleans musicians, but from the few songs I heard, I wasn't too impressed by the playing. Perhaps someone would like to put in a good word for them.

The Don Ewell GTJ albums are wonderful.

'Man Here Plays Fine Piano' and 'Music to Listen to Don Ewell By' are stride piano classics. And there's Darnell Howard, Pops Foster and Minor Hall joining the fun.

All magnificiently recorded by Roy DuNann. Some of DuNann's best engineering!
