pryan
I've seen this one around locally, but have never had the urge to pull the trigger. With all the positive talk lately about the latest albums by tenor greats Teddy Edwards and Von Freeman, this one (THE GIFT) seems to have taken a "back seat". So, what's the word on this one? JSngry
Very good, very solid. Nowhere near as radical as the Freeman or as miraculous as the Edwards, but mighty fine playing by all concerned. I could live happily enough without it, but will live happier with it. Fathead's ALWAYS a gas for me. Why? Just because. Just my opinion. sal
I agree with JSngry. I think its overall a very solid and enjoyable effort. The song styles are varied, but they all swing and they all sound great. Fathead's tone is as beautiful as ever and his bandmates play very nicely. I enjoy it much more than his last album "Davey Blue" (I think that's the name of it....).
Joe M
A very nice disc, nothing surprising, but these guys are the real deal and know how to make it happen. 100 percent genuine. This is like a Prestige release from the late 50's early 60's - not earth shaking, but very tasty.
