I have every one of these but this may as fine a reissue list as I've seen. I may upgrade on many of these however and ebay what I have.

Got the Spainish version of True Blue and all the others except for Heavy Soul which I am sure I will pick up.

This is the best set yet. Hell I may upgrade them all. This is prime Blue Note country.

Are these listed in one place anywhere on the CD Universe site? I'm not that familiar with the site and couldn't easily locate such a page (I usually just wait until they show up on AllDirect.com and get 'em for $7.99).

I found them listed under each individual artist name as "rvg/title" (RVG/Heavy Soul)

Thanks Ed and Matt. I thought maybe I was missing some way to search for all RVG's, or upcoming releases, etc.

No problem. Once people start ordering them in groups, they should start showing up under the heading, "CUSTOMERS WHO BOUGHT THIS ALSO BOUGHT:"

Just like Amazon. AllDirect.com generally is generally the cheapest, in my experience, but they don't have such conveniences--you have to know exactly what you want and just plow through each artist listing.

AHA! So THAT'S the secret--search RVG under TITLE. Thanks for the spoon-feed. :tup

I'm extremely tempted to get Basra off the bat, but I think the usual best strategy is to see which RVGs show up on the BMG website over the next few months.

I've tried this and invariably they carry the ones I bought and not the ones I need. (It's a conspiracy, you see  )

What is this Blue Note Perfect Takes? I note it's not issued by Blue Note by Angel.

I think we're all assuming that it is:

Various Artists - Blue Note Perfect Takes - CD+DVD (Blue Note RVG Edition) Mar 2005

— Recording engineer Rudy van Gelder's favorite tunes from the RVG series; plus a bonus DVD featuring an interview with Rudy

mentioned over at Jazzmatazz

You should keep the spanish "True Blue", which is a TOCJ remastering and sounds perfect.

I've got that one, the JRVG of "Basra" and the MFSL CD of "Night in Tunesia", so I will pass on this batch.

It did not sound as "perfect" as the original vinyl and does not contain the two alternate takes.

I suggest buying the new one, compare, then decide. You have something of value to sell either way.

In other words, ANOTHER way to get you to buy Blue Train all over again.

Marketing's way of attracting "newbies". I think this is smart.

Available at Starbuck's, if you can find one. :D

I may get Basra, as I passed on it too many times when the vinyl was affordable.

I'd be very curious about the Blakey. Every copy I've heard has sounded distorted to me, except for the MFSL. Wonder what the sound quality on this one will be like.

The availability of the Tina Brooks - True Blue, Pete LaRoca - Basra, and Hank Mobley - Hi Voltage, should put a dent in the EBAY market. ^_^

I have the Mobley on vinyl. Does the CD have any alternate tracks?

I will definitely get the Basra. The Coles is a puzzle to me. I got the Conn when it was being remaindered for, I think, about $6.00 or $7.00. From a sales point of view, why bring it back? (but better to have it available than not, of course).

At this point, I'm in WAY too deep with the U.S. RVGs to stop - have 'em all up to this batch, so no question I'm biting again! This is one killer grouping; though I have all of these titles in other earlier CD releases I think the sonic upgrades will be quite noticeable for most of them unless something is awry.

Heavy Soul sounds sweet on my original vinyl(though it's my least favorite of Quebec's BN's). I'll definitely wait for a Liberty vinyl Johnny C. I'll wait on Classic's vinyl True Blue as an upgrade to my other reissues.
