BruceH
Anyone see the Gary Giddins column in the June Jazz Times (the one with Greg Osby on the cover)? It's about Don Byas. Nice little article.

BruceH
By the way, doesn't anyone here like Don Byas?
Clunky
I like Byas, big tone. His problem might be that he went to Europe too much. It's always interesting joining Byas , Lucky T and Dexter as they had much in common. Byas's Vogue sides are a pretty good representation of his art. Jason Drake
it's always a problem coming to Europe too much - too many different currencies, languages, driving systems and voltages. They must have affected his tone.
Clunky
I am not sure if the Napoleonic code had much to do with his decline, certainly his 40s and early 50s material is much to be prefered. Europe seemed only to help the likes of Sonny Criss and Lucky Thompson. Both managed career revivals following stints in Europe.
