Guy Berger
I've heard two versions of this (the officially released one, on Standards Vol. 1, and a 2003 bootleg) and it's a great concept that goes on way too long. Guy
RDK
Of the hundreds of tracks recorded by the KJ trio, this one - from Standards One, which I first heard almost 25 years ago - remains my favorite of all their works.
Guy Berger
I love the gospel flavor on the STANDARDS v.1 (1/80) version, and I used to play it on my radio show pretty often. KJ's idea of treating standards as 'new' and frequently playing unusual versions of them is fine with me (although I'm happy to listen to Teddy Wilson and others do them, too). I love the gospel treatment, it's outstanding. I just think it could have been a few minutes shorter! Guy
GregK
I think this is one of the highlights of their studio output, partly because of the length!! I never want it to end!
jazzbo
I used to practice my drums to this back when it first came out (I was still drumming then). It's a favorite. Going to have to dig it out and listen.
