Does not matter to the public for whom these sets are mainly released. The series is aimed at supermarkets.

Surprised they included the Jimmy Raney set among the new reissues.

And doubt that they will have a Barney Wilen set among their future releases.

I guess you're right regarding the public they aim at, yes.

Why a Wilen set? There was just one disc of his anyway in the Vogue series... would obviously love to see more, but as long as they're just repacking, Wilen's not an option!

This was in reference to Clifford Thornton's post (#46).

Wonder also why that Zodiac remains unreissued!

Oh, I'd *love* to get "Zodiac", too!

But no way new stuff will appear in such a cheapo series. Alas the "main" series has come to end quite some time ago... too bad, as it was a truly fine series!

Rare as hen's teeth. Had the chance to buy it for 200$ years ago and I balked. That would be a steal these days.

I'ld better hang to my copy. A very clean original!

coming up, no details yet, but I assume it's made up of stuff that was out before (thrown together with little investment, or else they couldn't do it for that price):

71b1sEpYxgL._AA1500_.jpg

will be interested to hear details about the art (and if there's a good booklet), never got one of those boxes yet, just some single discs that were sold (and dirt-cheap) separately here ...

amazon links:

http://www.amazon.it...x/dp/B0087PI57K

http://www.amazon.de...x/dp/B0087PI57K

the last one has a price, which is 42€ - quite a bargain if it's indeed 35 discs ... if it's indeed original albums, they must re-pack most of the black "Original Vogue Masters" discs, I guess ...

Thanks!

But this makes me scratch my head ... they did, after all, add some things not part of the previous series (Django and Bechet at least), and some discs - provided the list above is complete, which I guess it's not - will be *very* short, the Konitz one for instance, what, 20 minutes? I'm sure it contains more, if not all of the previous "Saxophone Collection", making it a 3-albums-disc and hence helping them arrive at 35 ... but then the Haynes/Jones combines two sessions previously on the 54 Sessions and one of the Piano Collection discs, while the Thomas contains another of those from the 54 Sessions, and would hence again be very short if it does not contain anything else.

Anyway, there's probably no need for me to get it, I think I've got all the music and those black digipacks usually display the original album art, too, although in rather small reproductions usually.

It's a tough call. I have somewhere between 60-75% of this, so I'm probably not in the market for it, but maybe there will be enough newly released material to cause me to change my mind. If the packaging is really well done, it might sway me a bit as well, since I have a lot of the Vogue material on fairly ugly cut-outs.

At those prices, I'll get it and pass along whatever I already have, but having trouble finding it actually available anywhere. And yes, amazing how ugly the packaging has been on this stuff in the past, especially those brownish covers on the BMG jewel case ones from 20 years ago..

Well, it's not out yet, so it might indeed be rather troublesome to already find it ;)

I'll have to wait and see and hear about packing first ... only the Bechet material I don't have. Can't quite figure out which sessions might be contained, but I've got a pair of LPs of French material and the Jazz in Paris disc and I guess that's quite enough of French Bechet for me.

Also have the great album with Solal of course ... but it seems that one's not among those mentioned.

Oh, I didn't even notice that! But I think these "discothèque idéale" boxes are of French origin generally and it's not even on amazon.fr yet .... the site with most information is amazon.de and it has a release date of February 8, 2013:

Thx, I look forward to seeing this available!
