Mongo and Willie were never part of Shearing's group,although Willie did a few spot single recordings with Armando for George. West Side Story being panned ?...........By whom? Cal deserves more credit for being a catalyst, integrating Afro-Caribbean and North American Jazz to a point where it is now part of the mainstream scene- with many elements being absorbed into rock and pop! I have dozens of his albums on vinyl and about 10 on CD. This time of year especially. Coincidentally, I was listening yesterday to the Verve collection "More than Mambo" which has several CT cuts. There were 14 studio LPs - I think 8 CDs would be sufficient. But I don't think this will happen - neither Universal or Mosaic are interested enough. Bear Family would be a label I would ask ...
