Three questions:

1. Will this be copy-protected?

2. Why are they still listing Miles as co-author of 'Sanctuary'? I thought this was resolved years ago.

3. Which 4 of the 28 tracks are on the original Live-Evil, or were these tracks spliced together, so that the pieces are now re-assigned to where they belonged?

Bertrand.

At least some of the tracks on Live Evil were victims of splicing. I can't remember the names but the disc 1, track 1 is a combination of "Directions" and "Honky Tonk". Disc 1, track 2 begins with a take of "Directions" that has the melody spliced out at each instance.

Bertrand, I've never taken the time to totally work out the provenance of all the tracks on Live/Evil (but look below for analysis) . . . MOST if not all of them come from THIS night:

Directions (J. Zawinul) 14:44

Honky Tonk (M. Davis) 21:12

What I Say (M. Davis) 20:53

Sanctuary (W. Shorter-M. Davis) 0:40

Directions (J. Zawinul) 18:39

Funky Tonk (M. Davis) 23:56

Sanctuary (W. Shorter-M. Davis) 2:02

It's About That Time (M. Davis) 6:42

Sanctuary (W. Shorter-M. Davis) 1:18

(two sets recorded of three that night)

Miles Davis (tpt); Gary Bartz (ss, as); Keith Jarrett (el-p, org); John McLaughlin (g); Michael Henderson (el-b); Jack DeJohnette (d); Airto Moreira (perc, voc); Conrad Roberts (narr)

Here is the information on Live/Evil track breakdowns on Pete Losin's "Miles Ahead" website:

In an interview with Teo Macero, Chris Albertson describes the 87 minutes of live material on Live-Evil as a "distillation" of "ten to fifteen" reels of tape recorded during the group's performances at the Cellar Door ("The Unmasking of Miles Davis," Saturday Review, November 27, 1971, p. 87.). Here's a rough comparison of the issued material with the unedited masters:

The Sextet seems to have performed three sets per night during this engagement, so there may be a recording of the first set. These two sets, however, seem to be complete.

According to the CD Universe website, when you preorder they don't charge your credit card until they ship, so you're not out the money for a month and change.

Having preordered many a time I can tell you that this is true. :)

Waiting for the Monk-Coltrane to go up as well before going into a preordering frenzy.

I put it in my Wish List. Do you think they will send me a reminder when the release date gets closer?

OK........that sounds good.

I'll probably go ahead and do the "pre".
