Yep, that series was excellent, I got about two dozen of 'em ... another one to look out for is the Pacific half of the McCann/Turrentine bargain ... and they did "Tenorman", too!)

I'd still ove to see the missig one of the Lighthouse Crusaders ... wouldn't that be one for Dustygroove? They never did EMI stuff though, as far as I know, only Universal and lately Concord?

I think we will more likely see a reissue of Lighthouse '69 from one of our Spanish friends - they already did one Jazz Crusaders disc covering the first studio album with some bonus tracks. They did quite a number of McCan discs as well, with completed sessions, something Cuscuna probably would not have attempted.

Anyway, I ordered a used copy of Lighthouse '66 and a new copy of Jazz Waltz from amazon, which is all there is right now. I'm in for some groovy hours, it seems. So far I listened through the first two Box set discs and really love what I have heard.

Official (Blue Note) reissue of 'Lighthouse '69' with previously unreleased material was planned and IIRC even announced, but was pulled. There's a thread about that somewhere here. I seem to recall something about an inordinate cost of remastering the multitrack tapes that had numerous edits.

It's a good album - has Buster Williams on bass and features one of his compositions which is always a plus. Can't remember I've ever seen another recording of 'Ruby P'gonia'!

I know this should probably go into the Jazz In Print forum, but I found it fascinating that Joe Sample, Wilton Felder and Larry Carlton played on "Rock The Boat":

The Making of the Hues Corporation's Rock The Boat - WSJ

(If the link doesn't work for you, Google the article's title.)

I also loved this line:

Mr. Florez: At the end of the final take, my jaw dropped. I ran up to Wally to hug him and said, "My god, you were right." It was still a lousy tune but now it was a commercially viable one. Wally said to me, "Your issue John is that you want to make special, meaningful records. Instead, you should feed the market."
