7 CDs totaling over 9 hours of painstakingly remastered musical genius which encompasses Charles' entire historic Atlantic Records career from 1952-1959, plus rarities.

* Massive linen-bound liner notes book features an essay by Atlantic Records cofounder Ahmet Ertegun (who also co-produced this boxed set), an in-depth historical overview by David Ritz, detailed recording session info, and an Atlantic album and singles discography.

* Disc 7 boasts 27 tracks-all but three previously unissued-from an historic 1953 rehearsal session with Ahmet Ertegun (referenced in the ?lm Ray); never-heard outakes from the 1958 "(Nigh Time Is) The Right Time" sessions; plus 7 more unreleased recordings captured in a hotel room on tour in 1959.

* Disc 8 is a DVD featuring nine great performances from Ray Charles On Voice Of America, 1960 (Live At The Newport Jazz Festival, 1960). Also premieres new footage of Ray director Taylor Hackford interviewing Ahmet Ertegun.

* Tons of rare photos and the original liner notes for all of the artist's Atlantic LPs, including insightful writing by renowned music scribes Nat Hentoff, Bill Randle, Guy Remark, Billy Taylor, Leonard Feather, and more.

Sigh .... I'll wait and see if Zweitausendeins offers this. I have all the previous Atlantic CDs, the Birth of Soul box, the live CD, the jazz CD, the Bags double, and the Fathead .... but the unissued stuff and the DVD looks very tempting, and I prefer the chronological order over all the sessions in the set here .....

Those 70s LPs seem like a prime Rhino Handmade project, no?

Hell, they did the crap that was Sly Stone's Warner Bros. recordngs, and lots of other crap too. The 70s RC albums are certainly no worse, and are at times worthy of the earlier Ray Charles Atlantic catalog.

Just a matter of time, I'm sure...

What's the other Rhino Handmade crap you're referring to?
