Both are reissues on Atavistic's Unheard Music Series and readily available. Of the two I prefer Pomade. With the price change from $19 to $22 and the U.S. dollar taking a nose dive the price has gone up close to $5 U.S. Now in terms of the question: All the Schlippenbach you can find is worth getting and that includes the Globe Unity Orcestra & Berlin Contemporary Jazz Orchestra recordings. All the Schlippenbach Trio recordings with Evan Parker and Paul Lovens are a must! That includes: Pakistani Pomade Physics Elf Bagatellen Complete Combustion Swinnging the Bim Hunting the Snake-includes Peter Kowald to the trio. I have The Living Music on an FMP LP and it sounds just fine. Wish Corbett would've paired it with the complete rehearsal tape that adds Derek Bailey to the mix! I guess I'll try again. I wonder if there's some story here..... People's thoughts on Twelve Tone Tales vols 1 + 2? Been spinning it lately. On the whole, however admirable I find the project, maybe 2 CDs is too much for me.... I think one CD would have been fine, with the tonal material (the Monk & Dolphy covers) interleaved with the rest. Still, pretty fascinating project. (I recently saw Die Enttauschung here in Chicago, and they were just great, BTW.) Smoke is also a killer. Pretty much everything I've heard by Schlippenbach has been good, though.
