bichos
hello, someone knows where i can find this item? 53089. One Night Stand. February 5, 1945. Program #526. AFRS. A band remote from the Savoy Ballroom, New York City. The first tune is, "The Rhythm Is Jumping." Charlie Parker was in the sextette at this time, but is not mentioned in the credits. Cootie Williams and His Orchestra, Lem Johnson (vocal), Sam Taylor (tenor sax), Charlie Parker (? alto), Al Jarvis (piano), Carl Pruitt (bass), Les Payne (drums). 29:56. Audio condition: Very good to excellent. Complete. this is mentioned in no(!) charlie parker discography, so maybe he´s not on it... can somebody help? keep boppin´ marcel
Spontooneous
It isn't in my collection. Last I knew, the only Bird solo with Cootie was "Floogie Boo." Might the Lem Johnson credited with vocals here also be the Lem Johnson who was a saxophonist, and perhaps he played the alto part in the sextet? Chuck Nessa
There is a documented and (many times) issued broadcast from a week later. My guess is Bird was not in the band for the Feb 5 broadcast.
