Am I imagining things, or did the edit function...

I could have sworn that it used to be that when you edited a post in the middle or at the end of a thread, the board would return you to that same post (the one you were just editing), when it redisplayed the thread (meaning right after you hit the "Submit Modified Post" button).

Now when you edit something, it redisplays the thread starting with the very first post in the thread.

Kinda hard to see exactly how the edits turned out "for real".

Don't know when this change happened, but it was within the last couple months at most.

Is this something that is tweakable with board settings (either at the user level, or at an entire board level)?? - or just a change I/we have to learn to live with??

If you use "quick edit", you'll still be viewing that post after hitting "complete edit".

The last time I used the edit function - within the past week - it returned me to my edited post.

I try not to screw up toooo often, but I'll add this sentence and see what happens.

I have been having the same problem for several weeks. I manage to work around it but would prefer to go back to the previous settings.

using Opera 8.5, I just tried by editing my above post and was returned to the post in question in both full and quick edit mode.

With IE 6, after doing a Full Edit, I'm returned to the top of the thread.

So it's an Internet Explorer problem only

Um... it works on my version of Explorer on my laptop. I use Firefox on my desktop office machine and it works fine there, too.
