Well. . . since it's YOU asking Al, here you go:

This discography includes only U.S. issue numbers, with two exceptions. Alternate takes were sometimes used on the French releases of the Apollo sessions on Jazz Selection (78s) and Vogue (LPs). All Vogue LPs use the same masters as the JS 78s. Where they differ from the masters, those takes will be noted for clarification. When EMI Pathe Marconi reissued Jacquet's Aladdin album LP 803 in the early eighties, they used the same catalog number but expanded the contents. That issue is listed as (F) 803.

Producer's note:

Since its inception, Mosaic has worked diligently to create sets that are absolutely definitive within the scope of their stated parameters. Because of this, jazz scolars, researchers and serious collectors have come to trust the word "complete" when it appears in a Mosaic album title.

This set, however, is an exception. Illinois Jacquet listened to this music to provide us with discographical information. Watching him listen to this body of work with rightful pride and impassioned joy is an experience we will never forget. However, he became very dismayed upon hearing "Don't Push Daddy". Even though the track was released by Aladdin a couple of year's after Illinois left the label, he was extremely unhappy with the performance then and feels that its inclusion would only serve to blemish the great music in this set. Mr. Jacquet requested that we remove it, and, out of respect for his wishes, it does not appear here.

The sonic quality of the masters contained in this set varies drastically. On some of the Aladdin and RCA material, the original acetates or metal parts were found and used. In most other cases, existing tape transfers from acetates were used. With the Apollo sessions, no master source material existed. These masters were transferred from various Apollo and Jazz Selection 78s and Apollo and Grand Award LPs. While a de-hisser and a Cedar de-clicker was used on most of this set, no attempt was made to lessen surface noise by means of a Sonic Solutions or Cedar system. To be effective, such devices tend to take away much of the mid range, overtones and ambience of the original recordings.

Produced for release by Michael Cuscuna

Executive producer: Charlie Lourie

Tape and disc transfers and technical continuity: Malcolm Addey

Mastering: Joe Brescio, Master Cutting Room

Design direction: Richard Mantel

Design production: InkWell, Inc.

Special thanks to Illinois Jacquet for making the music in the first place and for his care and help in preparing this set, to the Institute Of Jazz Studios, Johs Bergh, David Schwartz, Scott Wenzel and Phil Schaap for furnishing rare source materials, to Bergh for two important Savoy discographical discoveries and to Bob Porter for his invaluable input.
