HD contest is on ESPN in about 50 minutes

and what may I ask as a sole Brit on this day you will all regret running away from our flag of protection is that awful looking stuff in a bowl...was that the by product of 49 hotdogs :bad:

Not my idea of "fun."

It is the watermelon-eating contest dressed up and perpetuated with typical American excess. The fact that some people take delight in these exhibitions of overindulgence is rather telling, I think. Would it not be nice if the people who arrange these things, and the press that covers them, instead put some effort into feeding those who really need it?

Personally, I don't think a hot dog eating contest is a harbinger of Armageddon, but here are some fun facts.

According to an online source, one Nathan's dog has 309 calories, 7.8g of saturated fat (39% of RDA) and 684mg of sodium (29% of RDA).

So Kobayashi's 53 3/4 hot dog feast (assuming he kept 'em down- do these guys purge after it's all over?) would then contain:

16,609 calories

419g saturated fat

36,765mg of sodium

That's, like, a lot. :bad:
