Call mine the minority opinion, but I thought those mustard & brown Broncs throwbacks were perversely cool in an uber-football-as-underarm-deodorant-and-sweaty-jockstrap kinda way. They spoke to the inner crew cut in all of us.

Plus, them vertical stripes on the hosiery was TRIPPY. :eye:

There was a stretch in the playoffs back in 88-89 where I thought Joe Montana was the best QB ever but Peyton Manning is 10x better.

He is just scary unstoppable this year, 329 passing yards per game. Must see TV every time he walks on the field.

I liked Denver's uniform when I was a kid. I saw them occasionally on TV. Our TV was b/w throughout the 60s, but I knew the colors from the bubble gum cards. In addition, the Broncos wore dark pants with light jerseys which was rare in the 60s.

The socks were disliked by the players. The vertical stripes were the idea of the owner Bob Howsam who later made a name for himself in baseball. The Denver fans either strongly liked or disliked the socks, and Howsam figured that anything that got people talking about the team was a good thing.

By the way, Denver was the only AFL team to never sign its first round draft pick until the two drafts were merged.

2009 being the 50th season of the original 8 AFL teams, the NFL is engaging in a special promotion for those 8 teams. That includes wearing the throwback uniforms for a number of games. I went to the Patriots' website last night, and found that they are selling a cap with the Pat the Patriot logo with the word "Boston" above it. I think I'll get it.

Broncos beat the Pats in OT! Whodathunk? :o

Not such a big surprise as Invesco field has been a house of horrors throughout Tom Brady's career. Still, that was all under Mike Shanahan. Game was close. Pats stop the Bronco offense at the end of the fourth quarter to force overtime. Then they win the coin toss, and the offense has another chance.

Overtime in the NFL is a casino crapshoot.

...and the Pats' defense had 4 more chances to stop 'em. :)

59-0??

WTF is going on with the Titans?

Titans were without their starting cornerbacks. They got behind so early that they became helpless.

As for the Patriots, I mentioned a few weeks ago that once the Pats' offense start to get in sync it will be scary. Looks like it's about to happen.

This year's team is probably the most talented and deepest since 2004. They will be a Super Bowl threat by the end of the season. Started off rough owing to a lot of new faces on the field and Josh McDaniels left to coach the Broncos. They also started off the season against five straight teams without a loss. Schedule remains easy next week with Tampa Bay up next, but they might be facing another undefeated team with Indianapolis in a few weeks.

Conn,

why in the world did Belicheck let Brady play after halftime? At 45-0 you sit your starting QB and keep him safe. Staring at 0-6, some Titan might do something stupid and injure Brady.

Played first series in the third quarter. The idea, I think, was to keep the momentum going. He would likely sit throughout most of the second half, but didn't want any mini comeback to get established by the Titans. Play him for one series to keep the intensity going, then bench him for the remainder of the game.

There was a game against the Dolphins in the 16-0 season, where they had a large lead and put Cassell in to start the second half, and he coughed up the ball a couple of times. Brady was expeditiously sent back into the game. I think BB never forgot that. (That was before Cassell became Cassell.)

Good game tonight between Denver and SD. That last Denver touchdown was a close call. I thought he didn't get in, but who knows.

Denver undefeated in a "rebuilding" year! Whodathunk?

Also, who'd have thought the undefeated teams at this point would be Denver, Indy, Minnesota and Nawlins? It's a crazy world.

16-0? You mean 18-1?

You're including playoffs.

That's fine, but the team still finished the reg season 16-0. It was a 16-0 season.

At first glance, I thought that was Romo on the ground. :P

Hey guys, I'm proud of that season. Pats finished it 16-0 and lost in the Super Bowl to a freak catch. Hard for any team at any time to match that accomplishment.

If that were Romo, it would be after he tripped over the chalk on the field or something. :g

I joke about it, but I'd be proud of a 16-0 season any day!
