Hi everyone, first time poster here (thanks, Jim!)

Question about Louis and the King Oliver material. Has anyone ever compared the sound quality of the "Off The Record" versions versus the Integrale vol. 1 versions? I see in a post above that neither one is truly "complete", but they both get pretty close, and I've decided to embark on bullding a complete Louis Armstrong collection; it seems one of these two is the way to go. Might as well start at the beginning, eh? So yeah, Off The Record, Integrale vol. 1, or other? Really, sound quality is my number one concern, followed close second by "complete-ness". Opinions?

On Off the Record and the Frémeaux Integrale the Oliver sides are complete. For more information I see my post 68.

Except that I wish to heaven that unissued 1923 take of "Someday Sweetheart" had been discovered. Could it be the same arrangement that Oliver later recorded with the Plantation Orchestra, with Johnny Dodds added for that emotive clarinet solo?

Trying to decide which volume to pick up first in the range of Vol. 9-13. I have the complete hot 5 and & from Sony and a nice collection of stuff with the All-Stars. Looking for stuff with his Orchestra or other formations. Any suggestions?

I would move toward the large orchestra material next, particularly as you already have a collection with the All Stars. Get all of the volumes from the 1930s, starting with the earlier ones.

Funny this comes up ... just checked the interwebs for news a few days ago as well ... we need more 1948 (I actually wanted to check if the All Stars date on the new Earl Hines set from Storyville was out on Fremeaux - but their latest volume cuts off a few months too early).

yes, it's on volume 12. i didn't even know this stuff existed,

pre-recordings not covered by dialogue or sound-effects, and tunes not used in the final film.
