No arguments with the above albums, but also

Groove Holmes - The groover (half of Legends of Acid Jazz)

Groove Holmes - Get up and get it (half of Blue Groove)

Those two are available

Groove Holmes & Gene Ammons - Groovin' with Jug

Groove Holmes & Les McCann - Somethin' special

These two were on CD but may be deleted (though not hard to find)

Groove Holmes - Shippin' out

Groove Holmes - Broadway

Groove Holmes - Blues all day long

These albums on Muse are really great - if you come across them, get 'em! There was a CD compilation of some of the stuff on 32Jazz.

recently picked this one up, Onzy Mathews big band arrangements (unspecified personnel, the notes give a couple of names, though):

Pretty good. Got it the same day as I got Jimmy McGriff's "Tribute to Basie", another very good organ w/big band disc.

It's a decent album.

Some of the tracks are duplicated on this one:

"A bowl of soul" on Loma.

Or, if you want a REAL disconnect between title and sleeve, the British issue:

used to love groove holmes in the bars 40 years ago, but not familiar with his recordings. recommendations.......

Groove Holmes was remarkably consistent in the quality of his recordings, imo. I would just get what you can find. I've probably got 15+ cds, and I like them all.

Agree. I have several on oddball labels such as "Beast Retro" that are great little records.

...and the LP with "Just Friends" not far behind.

That would be The Groover on Prestige. I just listened to it last night.

I enjoy it, but personally I don't think it has the unique spark that Soul Message has.

edit for typo

I guess I'm actually thinking of the compilation CD "Legends of Acid Jazz"...it has The Groover and That Healin Feeling LPs combined and it's just a real burning CD! Laura, On a Clear Day, See See Rider, Just Friends, Speak Low, That Healin' Feelin', I'll Remember April.....

I really have dug that CD a ton over the years. The cover even has a great shot of Groove, even though the artwork is a little psychedelic as is all in the series.
