I'm assuming they didn't simply copy the (ugly) 70s graphics. Did they make up titles and fresh cover art to make them look as though they were released on vinyl at the time of recording? Anyway, most of the twofers I had included material that has since been pretty easy to find on CD... but I'm sure there were some others that were outside my area of interest that have remained somewhat difficult or scattered. The one that I think of (and still have, actually) is the Stanley Turrentine twofer (mega-close-up color photo, or "ugly colored dots" series ) with the Duke Pearson-arranged session that hasn't seen daylight since. Off the top of my head, the other Jackei McLean album on Jacknife (the one with Moncur) has never made it out on CD. I believe it's the only Blue Note J-Mac that's still missing on CD. The McCoy Tyner stuff on Cosmos will finally come out on the Mosaic Select if that really makes it out in January (the 70's Hutcherson Select is due at the same time). The "High Freqency" session is the one from the Jacknife two-fer that's not seen release outside of the McLean Mosaic. So that's two from the two-fers that have not yet seen individual CD release. This has been discussed at length in at least two different threads (one quite recently), and I'll just say that I disagree with you. The eloquent one, Mr. Sangrey, has expressed it better than I could, but... The photos themselves (by themselves) may not have had anything to do with jazz, but the images were, in many cases, clearly associated with the album title in their application. In some cases, the association required more of a stretch of the imagination (and may have failed for some, even trying to apply their imagination... hey, it's subjective). Back in the day I'd picked up a number of twofers in the tan with orange type series; and orange/brown with top green banner series. (For all I know, this may have been the same series with a packaging change). Anyway, a number of these twofers were comrpised of 2 unreleased albums. The McCoy Tyner and Stanley Turrentine sets come to mind. Being that each set had 2 albums, but one title, I'm assuming that, say, the McCoy Tyner albums weren't subsequently released on CD as "Cosmos Vo. 1" and "Cosmos Vol. 2." And I know there are a lot of Blue Note experts around here who could answer the question in much less time than it would take me to enter each TRACK title into Google (being that I couldn't guess the CD titles). Somewhere around 1060, the United Artists name was dropped and the series became Liberty. Jim, you're talking about the very first series of the 2-fers, the "dotty" ones. That was just one set of releases. TTK's talking about the later "paper bag" series of 2-fers. The ones I remember: McCoy Tyner - Cosmos (part was on the Asante CD, all will be on the Mosaic Select) Sam Rivers - Involution (the quartet session led by Andrew Hill was in his Mosaic, the other session was on a single CD and Rivers' Mosaic) Andrew Hill - One For One (one half was in the Mosaic and was just reissued as Pax, the other is in the Mosaic Select) Wasn't there a list somewhere or was thsi discussed here on on the old BNBB?
