My question is: did blue note record a whole live set of DB and if so was it ever released- what a rare groove cd THAT would make! the reason i bring it up is cause i have seen that track on the best of but never any other album-- does anyone have the info to this, perhaps thru consulting the bn discography book? i dunno- ok thank u! It was a full black page with a white cartoon drawing of a fedora-wearing crow, and the copy was sometihing like "Have we got some blues for you". I kid you not. I have a casette copy from my uncle's vinyl, and its truly one of the worst Blue Note albums I've ever heard. On the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1973 Blue Note recorded five of its current artists. It's interesting to consider why George Butler may have thought this not worth issuing. It couldn't have been because the music was poor - Butler released plenty of duff albums on BN. And indeed, this looks to be right up BN's seventies street - Blackbyrd members, Mizells, Franklin; what more could George have been looking for? Perhaps the sound is fucked. I was listening to the Live at Montreux material yesterday...the Bobby Hutcherson and got to wondering what else was on during this festival from Blue Note other than those issued and the Donald Byrd...which we have seen on You tube and guess what...there was a setlist https://www.setlist.fm/festival/1973/montreux-jazz-festival-1973-43d6b313.html And the other gigs on that day include one by Alphonse Mouzon and strangely enough Barney Kessel! Alphonse is not everyones cup of tea here but for those who don't mind a bit of Funky Snakefoot there were 4 tracks Earth Play Video Antonia Play Video Mouzon Folk-Song Play Video Macrobian Wonder why Blue Note did not seem to record them?
