Billie Holiday - Lady Day: Complete Columbia Recordings 1933-1944; disc two.

Edit: I need to get away for the rest of the evening - the triple-posting that happens to every one of my posts is driving me crazy.

Later edit: I refreshed my browser, and things are working much better.

Moved on to discs 2 and 3.   More great stuff particularly the stunning "It never entered my mind".

Disc 15 (live Europe 1951).   I don't often get to the tail end of this set.  It's all enjoyable stuff.

Disc 14

Love love love that set.  Bought it in 1999 not long after it came out and still pull it out every several years for a complete tour.

This reminded me that I hadn't visited this great music for a while.   Disc one from this  and disc six from the Quintet 1965-68 box.  Can't get enough of the rhythm section, Hancock's magical, but then so are Carter and Williams..

I recall seeing the Mike Gibbs Orchestra around this time at IIRC The Rainbow.   Maybe it was a year or so later, possibly Gary Burton was guesting.  Can anyone refresh my memory.

An excellent 4-CD distillation of Sinatra’s Columbia period:
