Which Jazz box set are you grooving to right now?

Recommended Posts

Main problem with these labels is no one gets paid and the info about the tracks is mediocre. Regarding what the set covers, it is sketchy since they don't mention the sources. Can't find any reproduction on the web of what the minimalist booklet offers.

I can tell you though that CD 1 starts with music from the Krupa band from 1940 to 1942. CD 2 tracks are from the Kenton orchstra from 44 to 45, a few Krupa sides circa 1945, 4 numbers where she's the leader in 45 and 4 others in 47

The 2 other cds are her own sides going from 47 up to 59.

Hope it helps.

Yep the sound is quite good indeed, bought it at my local music store, so you should have no problem finding it.

Worse the Hancock cube or the Evans Verve rusted metal box.

The worst I have is the Ella & Louis complete (Verve). When I bought it, I was not able to open...

The Sony Charlie Christian box still takes First Prize for me--let's stuff some CDs in a block of foam rubber and see how badly we can schmutz 'em up!:beee:

The Evans Rust Box, hands down. Of all the boxes I've ever bought--and I've truly lost count--that one had the worst packaging, the most unreadable text, the dumbest graphics. I long ago repackaged the cds into jewel cases because the *music* is absolutely stunning. Haven't laid eyes on the old box in years. It may have completely rusted away.

At least the CDs in the Evans Verve box were playable right out of the box. For many people (including me  ) some or all of the Charlie Christian CDs were completely unplayable fresh out of the box because of the way Sony had packaged them (foam rubber gook all over the discs). Fortunately for me, back when I got the box, Sony still had a toll-free customer service number you could call, and they replaced my discs. Nowadays, though, there's no such number. :(

Amazing set but I agree. My solution was to take those clear plastic discs that come on the top and bottom of blank cd stacks and place one behind each CD thus protecting them from the block of foam. It works great!

Blind-Willie-McTell-King-Of-The-Georg-406188.jpg

B Goren I bought this myself months ago and have yet to listen to it, how is the sound?

Very reasonable sound. Dont forget that some of these recordings are more than 70 years old.

Yea I have some of those McTell recordings on various other Sets but that one looks like it has pretty much all his early recordings.

Did you ever get the Shearing MPS trio Set?

Not yet but it's on my list.
