This is the interesting one for me. Does anyone know what the Conn is going to include?

According to the info that's now up at worldsrecords.com:

"Featuring two different 10-piece bands, the first seven tracks were released on two long-out-of-print LPs in the late 70s and the last five tracks are gems from the second session issued here for the first time."

That must mean that it includes the following two sessions:

Stanley Turrentine Tentet

Donald Byrd (tp) Julian Priester (tb) Jerry Dodgion (as, fl) Stanley Turrentine (ts) Joe Farrell (ts, fl) Pepper Adams (bars, cl) Kenny Barron (p) Bucky Pizzarelli (g) Ron Carter (b) Mickey Roker (d) Duke Pearson (arr)

Rudy Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, NJ, February 17, 1967

1839 tk.4 She's A Carioca Blue Note BN-LA 394-H2

1840 tk.9 Samba Do Aviao -

1841 tk.14 Manha De Carnaval Blue Note LT 993

1842 tk.15 What Now, My Love? -

1843 tk.24 Night Song Blue Note BN-LA 394-H2

1844 tk.32 Here's That Rainy Day Blue Note LT 993

1845 tk.41 Blues For Del -

* Stanley Turrentine Best Album (Blue Note BN-LA 394-H2)

* Stanley Turrentine - New Time Shuffle (Blue Note LT 993)

Stanley Turrentine Tentet

Blue Mitchell, Tommy Turrentine (tp) Julian Priester (tb) Jerry Dodgion (as, fl) Stanley Turrentine (ts) Al Gibbons (ts, bcl) Pepper Adams (bars, cl) McCoy Tyner (p) Walter Booker (b) Mickey Roker (d) Duke Pearson (arr)

Rudy Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, NJ, June 9, 1967

1904 tk.16 With This Ring Blue Note unissued

1905 tk.15 Silver Tears -

1906 tk.20 A Bluish Bag -

1907 tk.26 Come Back To Me -

1908 tk.30 The Days Of Wine And Roses -

1909 tk.45 Message To Michael Blue Note rejected

This means that the New Time Shuffle album isn't complete here, and that Cuscuna thus must be planning a later CD with the 6/23/67 session, which has the remaining tracks, plus probably the 7/28/67 session, which has several unissued tracks, and perhaps even the 1/25/68 session.

Re: Frank Foster's Manhattan Fever

"Tracks 1-6 were released in 1968 and feature the saxophonist in a swinging sextet. The second session, a nonet [sic] augmented by a second reed player, has been in the vaults since it was recorded in early 1969, and offers a fresh look at one of jazz's most versatile tenor players."

This means that we get the unissued 1969 session as well!

Frank Foster Septet

Burt Collins (tp, picc tp -1/5) Jimmy Cleveland (tb -1/5) Ed Pazant (as, fl, ob -1/5) Frank Foster (ts, acl) George Cables (p) Buster Williams (b) Mickey Roker (d)

Since it even got a catalogue number it must have had an intended album title. I wonder what?

Sounds good to me. Quite a bit of unreleased stuff in this batch, cool! :)

Will this be the major selling point? I haven't heard the greatest things about the original album...

A couple of days ago, I saw pop-ups about future titles by Andrew Hill and others; it sounded like the recent RVGs. There's still hope.

I used a Borders' coupon plus a personal shopping day and got a bunch of RVGs for $8 each. Hardly worth waiting for yourmusic.

I'll keep my membership until the end of the year, but if the inventory doesn't improve before then, I'll drop out.

Bertrand.
