I sang the praises of this cd in a Getz thread last year. Very fine indeed.

The only trace of more by this band is the following entry in Bruyninckx:

-Stan Getz/Gerry Mulligan- : Stan Getz Quartet : Stan Getz (ts) poss Stanley Cowell (p) Miroslav Vitous (b)

Jack DeJohnette (d) c. 1969

Step up, swing out (Stan's blues) J For Jazz JFJ804

Bossanova bauble (Lorraine) -

Pitchman (Con alma) -

Sandy at the beach (Lover man) -

Spain -

Bogansville hooks (Desafinado) -

Song for Strayhorn (Con alma) -

Waltzing Matilda (Wave) -

Note : Real titles are between bracets and Gerry Mulligan is not even present on the above session !

If there's Spain on that record, it can't be from 1969 (it was written in 1971 or 1972), and it can't be Cowell (who played with Getz only in 1969, I think).

I have an LRC Classics cd "The Song is You" . . . Stan Getz backed by Stanley Cowell, Miroslav Vitous, and Jack De Johnette.

This is a killer recording.

Are there more out on cd with Getz backed by this rythmn section?

Lol, can you confirm the track listing on your CD please. There are several CDs listed on Amazon with the same title but with different covers so I want to make sure I order the right one.

Not that it needs it now, but I'll second (third?) the recommndation of this disc. It's funny, but we (or at least I) often overlook these "cheap" laserlight or generic-looking LRC discs because they often look like poor quality boots or rip-off complations (and many are!). I picked this up at some record store sidewalk sale a few years ago for probably a quarter and didn't listen to it for the longest time. When I finally did, I was most pleasantly surprised. :tup

some of the confusion may be caused by the fact that this title has been reissued with different covers several times over the years. additionally, it looks like amazon has mistakenly used the cover art to a compilation called double exposure for some of it's entries.

btw, lrc also reissued this title along with another compilation called with european friends that features different tracks recorded between 1958 and 1971.

Discogs lists 6 different Items in a Master release. Its also ducumented in Astrups Getz discography.

Getz plyed with that group only in 1969 ( on tour in France I guess)
