I have it, I like it. You and I have differing tastes in music. . . I don't want to tell you to get it, I don't want to tell you not to get it. I think since Mosaic will take it back if you don't like it, if you're even just firmly on the fence you could return it if it displeased you.

It's not essential unless you really happen to love pianists and piano music. I do. I would venture to say that as much as I love other instruments, the piano is the one I most enjoy; I find it hard to keep my hands off one if I'm around one.

I've in fact ordered another copy to give to my father as a gift, he'll really like it.

Is the poll done by people from Florida, it says 15 people answered the poll and i see only 6 answers.

Even worse it says that i have voted and i didn't.

It looks like it counts null votes, which is how I voted (since I don't own the set.)

Problem is i did not vote and even if i wanted i couldn't, where's Jeb Bush ?

You're askin' too many questions, son... stay right where you are. We got a plane comin' to take you on an all-expenses-paid vacation to a little place we call Gitmo. Get ready for our version of the endless summer!

Tranemonk, the Jamal sessions came out on an individual CD a year or two back. I voted "Good not great"... depends, as Lon said, how into "jazz piano" you are. I know I didn't have any post-purchase regrets about getting it, though.

I'll take a stab at what I think Chuck is saying.

He thinks only part (and possibly a small part!) of the box set is really worth spending money on. And that part/those parts are available elsewhere outside of the cd set on indivudal cds or an individual cd. And he thinks you should save the big box money to use on a wiser purchase.

Hope I did okay. It SEEMS easier than some other translations one can attempt on this board. . . ;)

I would say skip it. Anything you really need can be had elsewhere and you could spend the money more productively.

Which is the wheat and which is the chaff, Chuck? I have the Jamal session already on the Columbia CD and assume the Hines and Garner sessions are worth picking up, but am in the dark about most of the other stuff.

Lon understood me. :excited:

The sets by Garner, Jamal, Tatum and Bushkin are indeed available on other CDs, but then there's also Ralph Sutton, Jess Stacy, Earl Hines, Teddy Wilson, Joe Sullivan, Eddie Heywood... what's not to like? This has become one of the most-played Mosaics in my collection.

Why do I have the feeling that this is falling into the same category for me as the Mobley set?? (I KNOW this will come as sacrilegious to some...)

Nice to have but DEFINITELY not essential!...

On a non-Mosaic note... Last night, just finished listening to Maria Schneider's new ArtistShare (IMHO - Masteriece!) Sky Blue.... Outstanding!!!! :excited: :excited: :excited:

Even if you don't like 1950s Hank Mobley, the Mobley Mosaic is essential :)
