Montreal Alouettes 20....Toronto Argonauts 9

Both Ray and Calvillo are out of action, so this was a game between Zach Collaros and Tanner Marsh. This was Marsh's first CFL start.

The Argos led 8-0 after one, but after that it was all Alouettes. At this stage of their careers, it's hard to guess what kind of future either of these guys will have in the league.

Kevin Glenn was injured in yesterday's game, and Bo Levi Mitchell finished up for him. Isn't it about time for Drew Tate to return from his arm injury?

The Als announced today that they put Anthony Calvillo on the nine-game injured list before yesterday's game. Remember, they have the right to take him off the list before the nine games are up.

It looks like Bo Levi Mitchell will start for the Stamps this week. Drew Tate hasn't played since July 5.

Trouble in Eskimo land. Ed Hervey gave a press conference Tuesday and suggested that he was going to make decisions and micro-manage the team. Now it seems like nobody cares what he said.

A Sports Illustrated writer reported last night on The NFL Kickoff Show that Tim Tebow had turned down an offer from the CFL.

http://tracking.si.com/2013/09/05/tim-tebow-position-change-refusal/?sct=hp_t2_a7&eref=sihp

However, Dave Naylor is reporting that Jim Popp today denied any contact with Tebow's agent, or any offer being made.

Not really an interesting game. Rene Parades kicked five field goals. Hugh O'Neill missed two easy field goals which would have given the Eskimos the lead and made the game that much more interesting.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats 37....British Columbia Lions 29

http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4622829

http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=431360

Here we go again. I was out for most of the game, and didn't get back home until the end of the third quarter when the score was 34-8. So I took a few minutes to surf the web, and then tuned in to hear the end of the game. The score was 34-22! BC had scored two quick touchdowns. Luca Congi then kicked a field goal which proved to put the game out of reach, but it wasn't obvious at the time, as BC still had the momentum. BC scored another touchdown with 1:57 left, but that was all they could do.

Remember that last year the Ticats had the league's best offense and worst defense? It looks like their defense is getting better. Either that, or BC just isn't as good as I thought they were. The Ticats are now 5-5, and the Lions are now 6-4.

The Ticats wore the Wildcats uniforms. You can, for the time being, see the picture of Hank here:

It's great to see two young quarterbacks engage in a great duel! The Argos came back after trailing 23-8 in the third quarter.

If the Als had won, the Als, Argos and Ticats would have been tied for first at 5-5.

Surprise! The Bombers win the Banjo Bowl! This was their first win at Investors Group Field.

The Bombers offense looked pretty poor in the first half, but their defense kept them in the game. Justin Goltz improved mightily in the second half, and the defense kept the Riders bottled up the whole game.

Lawrence Tynes was treated late last week for a penicillin-resistant infection called MRSA. He needed toe surgery to scrape out the infection. It was Tynes' right foot. Is that his kicking foot? I think he is a left-footed kicker.

Tynes and the players union are filing an expedited grievance over the way the team is handling his infection. Gory details here:

At last week's press conference, Ed Hervey singled out Simeon Rottier for poor play. The players union asked the league to punish Hervey, claiming that his comments violated the collective bargaining agreement. The league has informed Hervey that his comments did indeed violate the agreement, but will take no further action against him.

After being benched last game, Rottier will start this week. I have heard his name pronounced both Rot-ee-yay and Ro-tier. Does anybody know which is correct?

Here's an oddity. The Bombers won last week despite not getting a first down in the first half.

Ted Michaels has a good column this week about how the collective bargaining agreement prevents publicly criticizing a player's play.

CFL/CFLPA CBA rule Section 34.12-Public Criticism: "Member clubs and employees of member clubs, including players, shall be prohibited from publicly criticizing the on-field performance of any player and/or coach in the CFL."

Say everybody, this board was down yesterday while its owner paid the bill for the next few months.

This CFL thread has 64,529 views, so I'm guessing that it is read by many CFL fans who would not come here otherwise.

I have sent a small check to the board's owner, Jim Alfredson, and I encourage you to do the same. Don't break the bank - just a small check.

Here's the information.

Please make your check out to Jim.

Thanks! And tell Jim you're a CFL fan!

Good game! The lead changed hands a few times. It looked like the Ticats were going to win it, but the Stamps scored late to pull it out.

Henry Burris crossed the 50,000 yard mark with a touchdown pass to Onrea Jones.

Boring game. There were three iffy calls in the first quarter, and they all went against the Bombers. They seemed to lose all the steam because of that, and the score was 17-0 after one. There was very little scoring by either team after that.

Toronto Argonauts 31....Saskatchewan Roughriders 29

http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=431875

Another good game! The Argos owned the first and last quarters, and the Riders owned the middle two.

The Riders scored a touchdown very late, but failed on the two-point convert which would have sent it into overtime.

Not an interesting game. The Lions led throughout.

The big news is that Travis Lulay hurt his shoulder. Suddenly Wally's obtaining Buck Pierce seems like a good idea.

Former Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith saw his first action for the Als.

Sig Gutsche, who as I recall took over the Stampeders franchise in '96 when the former owner ran out of money, has died. RIP. He was much younger than I realized.

Yes, I found verification that Gutsche took over the team from Larry Ryckman. I believe that Gutsche sold the team to Michael Feterick and the F Troop gang. Remember them?
