http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4440464

The Als dominated, but the Bombers came back in the late going. The game ended with the Als stopping Alex Brink twice from the one.

British Columbia Lions 33....Edmonton Eskimos 24

http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4440471

The Eskimos dominated the first half, but didn't put up much on the scoreboard to show for it. As so often happens, the team that escaped the first half came back to win the game.

Calgary Stampeders 40....Saskatchewan Roughriders 3

http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4440638

With two minutes to go in the half, the Stamps led 9-3. They scored two quick touchdowns before the break and never looked back.

This loss came very close to mathematically eliminating the Argos from the playoffs.

Riding a six game winning streak, the Lions have vaulted to the top of TSN's power rankings for the week.

  • [1] B.C.: Moved up two spots after winning their sixth consecutive game
  • [2] Montreal: Hang on to beat Bombers and hang onto No. 2 rank
  • [3] Winnipeg: Hard-fought loss to Als costs them two spots
  • [4] Calgary: Win ends two-game losing skid; move two spots up
  • [5] Hamilton: Won second straight; within two of top spot in East
  • [6] Edmonton: Slide two spots following second straight defeat
  • [7] Saskatchewan: Two straight embarrassing performances
  • [8] Toronto:Sixth straight loss to Ticats; playoff hopes hanging

In the last minute of the game, the Bombers were awarded the ball on the Als' one due to a bad call of pass interference. Today the league fired the ref who made the call.

The best game of the season so far! Seesaw battle with lots of big plays.

Dave Ridgeway set the record for consecutive field goals at 28 in 1993. Paul McCallum broke it tonight by kicking his 29th and 30th. On his attempt for his 31st with 4:27 left in the game, he missed, and Larry Taylor ran it back 122 yards for a touchdown to give the Stamps a one-point lead. On the last play of the game, McCallum hit a 53 yarder to win it.

Decent game. Anthony Calvillo broke Damon Allen's record for career yards thrown.

The loss eliminated the Argos from the playoffs.

Durant was dressed but hurt, so Dinwiddie started and played the first half, throwing three interceptions. I think the clock is ticking on Dinwiddie. Durant played the second half and couldn't get anything done either.

With the Riders' loss, the Eskimos and the Lions clinched playoff berths.

This week's TSN power rankings are out. Other than the Lions on a seven-game winning streak, I would say that the top five are very close.

  • [1] B.C.: Hold on to top spot for the second week
  • [2] Montreal: Defeat the Argonauts and hang onto No. 2 rank
  • [3] Winnipeg: Remain in third by downing the Tiger-Cats
  • [4] Calgary: Close loss to Lions keeps them in top half
  • [5] Edmonton: Dominant performance moves them up one spot
  • [6] Hamilton: Drop into sixth after failing to beat Bombers
  • [7] Saskatchewan: Three straight embarrassing performances
  • [8] Toronto: Another week, another loss for the Boatmen

The Argos have released Prechae Rodriguez to make room on the roster for Maurice Mann. I suspect that Rodriguez is through.

I hadn't realized that the Ticats also let go of Marquay McDaniel, and that the Stamps had picked him up.

Surprise! The Argos gave the game away, and the Stamps gave it right back.

The Argos had a terrific first half, and led 28-9 at the break. They did absolutely nothing in the second half, Drew Tate got hot, and the Stamps pulled ahead late 29-28. In the final minute, twice the Argos drive was stalled, but penalties gave them new life. Noel Prefontaine kicked an 18 yard field goal on the last play of the game to win it.

This was a rather dull game that became very exciting at the end. The Ticats failed on a two-point convert with 56 seconds left that would have tied the game.

With the win, the Als clinched at least second in the East.

The Riders looked great for three quarters, but the Lions scored the game's last 17 points in the fourth.

This year's Hall of Fame inductees were announced today:

Damon Allen (who came to my 1995 Grey Cup party)

Milt Stegall

Tyrone Jones

Jack Abendschan (whose bubble gum card I had in 1964)

Eric LaPointe

David Braley

Peter Connellan

http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4443597

Abendschan was (in '75) the league's last position player to also placekick.

This week's TSN power rankings are out. The Argos are out of last place!

  • [1] B.C.: Eight straight wins keeps the Lions on top
  • [2] Montreal: Win over rival Ticats means first in the East
  • [3] Edmonton: Climbing the charts after another impressive win
  • [4] Winnipeg: Loss to Eskimos causes drop of one spot
  • [5] Calgary: Second straight defeat means another fall in the rankings
  • [6] Hamilton: Still having trouble getting over hump called Alouettes
  • [7] Toronto: Rare victory means rare move up rankings
  • [8] Saskatchewan: Four straight losses drops Riders to the basement

The Riders are concerned that a comment made by Eric Tillman on the radio amounts to tampering regarding Andy Fantuz.

John Hufnagel is benching Henry Burris, and will start Drew Tate this week. Remember, Burris was the Most Outstanding Player last year.

With their loss to BC yesterday, the Riders were eliminated from the playoffs. Ergo, the Ticats have clinched the last playoff spot.
