As far as has been documented, the only times Clifford played with Tadd was at the recording session for Prestige and the Paradise gig. However, Tadd was known to have been in and out of Philadelphia in the early 50s. Perhaps it was some gig there, or even at the Paradise that has been lost to history. Another reason I regret deeply not interviewing some other folks like Jimmie Merritt.

It is possible that Benny forgot about the one time Hank subbed for him.

The 1973 interview is so odd in many ways. Hank brings up very specific facts such as this one and the whole Algerian war film, but there is no way to substantiate any of it. He specifically says he played with Tadd in Atlantic City. It's possible he got mixed up with another gig he was called to sub on, but would he have even known about the residency in Atlantic City without having been there, at least in the audience. Very mysterious?

A thought - are there any examples of film soundtracks recorded by a jazz artist on the sly at the RVG studio unbeknownst to the record label under which he was on contract, and which would therefore be unlisted in that artist and label's discographies? Think, Bertrand, think.
