jazz1
Mucho kudos to Mr. Tracey who has been made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire! His playing on Norma Winstone new cd "Amoroso only more so" is some of his best. British jazz is alive and well.
sidewinder
I think he already had the OBE so the CBE is a step up ! Nice to see one of these awards go to someone who has really earned it. Often they are given to 'jobsworths'.
Guest Bill Barton
My hearty congratulations to the estimable Mr. Tracey.

Alexander Hawkins
A very wonderful pianist, still playing magnificently. 'Under Milk Wood' probably rightly remains a calling-card of British jazz, but Stan has been doing amazing stuff ever since. A beautiful record, and slightly unusual for both men - 'Khumbula' - Stan with Louis Moholo.
bluenoter
I think he already had the OBE so the CBE is a step up ! That's correct. Stan Tracey was awarded an OBE (Officer) in 1986. His new award is a CBE (Commander), which is a "promotion" from OBE.

By the way, a mini-tribute to Mr. Tracey is on tap for Bright Moments Monday early (very early!) a.m.
bluenoter
The thread title is correct now (?) Yes, the title now says "CBE," and that's correct. I was sort of clarifying the discussion (or trying to). You're welcome (again), Val! Edited December 31, 2007 by bluenoter
