Is it just me or are some of them just plain nerds? It was downhill from the second post on ...

Who isn't a nerd? :bwallace2:

Post #6 is a freaking genius. She may not be a super model, but she's a brilliant woman.

She may be, but the thread is "Chess Babes" - if you're not a babe but you play chess, you don't belong. No grading on a curve for chess nerds.

Who says Judit isn't a babe? Maybe beauty is just skin dip with you, Dan, I don't know.

What the fuck is a chess nerd anyway? Part of the purpose of showing these pics is to overcome the outdated stereotype. Just because most Americans don't play chess doesn't mean that this is the case across the world. Chess has changed a lot since the Bobby Fischer days. We've got a lot more female players and chess is big in the scholastic system.

Maybe fans of the Three Sounds might be considered "nerds" to other people. Be careful about your simplistic labels, dude.

Thanks for the answer connoisseur !

An other babe, Marie Sebag (FR, 1986) :

It was widely reported (well, in chess circles) that Kass was dating German GM Eric Lobron. The reports caused a certain amount of amazement. The couple has since broken up. :tdown

Isn't Sharevich, GM Alexander Grischuk's squeeze?

No, Grischuk is married to (WGM?) Natalia Zhukova. There were recent pics in Chessbase. Here,

"Pivdenny [recent tournament sponsor] Chairman Vadim Morokhovsky (suit) supports Natalia Zhukova in the final hand against her husband. Natalia's King-Ten must compete against the Jack-Nine of Alexander Grischuk (said husband) [who is said to be a big-time poker player]"

Oh c'mon Paul, all I am saying is that a number of these 'babes' don't deserve a second look. If I offended you for calling them "nerds" well excuse me, its a term generally used for brainy people. And yes, Judit is not a babe unless you've got some much more attractive photos than what you've shown so far. And as far as "skin deep" goes, how else is anyone supposed to judge someone who only exists as a bunch of pixels in this thread???? So kindly give me a break.

Is it really?

I mean in America, of course. In Britain it's used as a derogatory term for people (like us) who concentrate on things like collecting train numbers, stamps of pre-independence (former) British colonies, discographies of little known African bands, and the multiplicity of Blue Note reissues. (Er... I only do the last two, I'll have you know. And I'm not very good at the last, anyway.)

Dan explains why he isn't comfortable with the thread.

Her groundbreaking accomplishments speak beyond pixels. She's the greatest female player who has ever lived. She's also a proud mother of two. God Bless, Judit!

Not bad. I was in the Chess Club in high school and, well, if some of these gals had been in that same club then I probably wouldn't now think it so pathetic to have once been in a high school chess club.

Things have changed. At the 2007 Scholastic Chess Nationals in Kansas City, I saw a lot of pretty and talented young ladies.
