I guess we have all received tons of these, mostly from Nigeria, but this one just popped into my mailbox (from a hotmail address). Thought it was a little different.

My intention of contacting you is to solicit your assistance in a

Project,Though I know my decision to contact you in this manner is

unconventional, the prevailing circumstances necessitated my action.I am

Mohammed Jamal from Cuba an oil explorer.I have esophageal cancer and the

doctors say i have Six months left.Honestly everyone will surely die one

day,but how you pass through this world is what matters,I have been

distributing funds to charity organizations but Due to my present

condition i cant do this anymore,i need you to help distribute my

remaining money to war torn countries and religious organizations,Any

delaying your reply will give room in sourcing for an organization or a

Definitely a different letter. It is strange that there is no mention of payoff for the scamee or the scammer - but maybe what they are trying to do is to secure personal info prior to the "transfer" of funds for dispersal to there charities.

There is a large list of people in dire straits with lots of money. I think this one was on the old Blue Note BB:

a down payment with the Russian Space Authorities for a Soyuz return

flight to bring him back to Earth. I am told this will cost $ 3,000,000

servants are prohibited by the Code of Conduct Bureau (Civil Service

My client will send you a cashier check of $13,000. When you receive the check, deduct $4,000 for the Truck, the difference of $9,000 should be sent via Money gram transfer to the agent who will under take pickup, shipment and other expenses. I hope it is in good condition? Please confirm this and provide the following details

My understanding is that these offers are legit in terms of receiving legitimate payment but in reality you are laundering money for them, and its highly likely that the Feds will come down on you for your role.

As for the scam - think how much easier it is to find a sucker willing to pay $95 to get his "cheque". And $95 will probably go a long way in BENIN REPUBLIC.

GAZZETED I believe that is when something is sent by gazelle.

Gazetted is a term borrowed from the British Government by some, perhaps many, former colonies. There is a weekly paper called "The London Gazette" which, at the bottom says "Published by Authority" - which I've always thought was a fantastic expression. The London Gazette is the organ by which certain Government actions are made real in a sense. For example, appointments to the Privy Council, senior military appointments, schools inspectors' appointments are announced in it; so are bankruptcies - the doctrine being that ignorance is no excuse and creditors ought to read the London Gazette just in case they find out that someone who owes them money has gone bust. The Royal diary for the week is set out in it, if I recall aright. And also the sort of thing that the scam letter talks about.

But no one reads the London Gazette except Government officials. There is nothing in the paper except these announcements. And the paper, I should think, makes a profit, because each announcement is charged for like an advert.
