Terence Blanchard

Durium

An great player / composer / arranger. "God's Will" was a beautiful album, I thought. Saw Blanchard about a month ago and it was quite good -- wide-ranging couple of sets that included a mix of new and old. James Moody (tenor) was on board and blowin' his heart out.

The last few days I've been listening to the Comedian, a soundtrack album but really a Terrence Blanchard album. It's pretty good, with Kenny Barron as the other main soloist. It has three quartet performances, one piano/bass duo featuring Kenny Barron, and four pieces adding two saxophones to the quartet--Ravi Coltrane and New Orleans based favorite (of mine) Khari Allen Lee. It's quite a solid mainstream jazz recording.
