I've gotta pick up your avatar one of these days, DrJ, now that it's been re-issued at last.

I haven't taken the plunge yet. I have the slightly older Rykodisc reissue of TRUST and have to say that, on balance, the Ryko's are superior to the new Rhinos in terms of sound quality based on an A/B comparisons of the two versions of IMPERIAL BEDROOM. Still, it IS nice to have the whole extra bonus CD of stuff that is included in the Rhinos. My approach, since doing the A/B comparison, has been to go for the new Rhinos in cases where all I have is old, worn out vinyl (e.g. GET HAPPY!) but not for those where I have the Ryko CDs.

Jimmy Smith: The Complete February 1957 Sessions

Jimmy Smith: A New Sound, A New Star

Jimmy Smith: Incredible Jimmy Smith at Club Baby Grand vol. 1 & 2

I have come to really dig Smith's sound in 1956 - 57. You can see someone exploring a new way of playing. One of these days I'm going to do a big, honking long post on the 56 - 57 recordings. You are warned.

Ouch!  Hey, this city ain't that big.  Just over 700,000.  How many people in Kansas City?

That like jazz? About 12.

Kansas City used to be such a hotbed of jazz and jazz clubs---they named a style of swing after it, fer kripesake! All gone? If so, too bad.

The once-vibrant SF jazz scene is not completely gone...if you count the one good jazz club in Oakland.

Current listening: Sonic Boom, Passing Ships, Bossa Nova Bacchanal

Right now: Chick Corea/Gary Burton - Crystal Silence

Also this week:

Hank Mobley - Thinking of Home (just got this, and haven't been so pleasantly surprised by a CD in a long time!)

Hank Mobley - The Flip

Lee Morgan - Sonic Boom

Charlie Rouse - Bossa Nova Bacchanal

Andrew Hill - Passing Ships

Jack Teagarden - Mis'ry and the Blues

Hugh Masakela - Grrr

John Klemmer - Involvement (another pleasant surprise)

Phil Woods and his European Rhythm Machine - Live at Montreux

Al Grey - Snap Your Fingers

These past couple of months have really been hurting my wallet. There's way too much good music being released. ;)

Air - Time

Did you really get it that fast?

Yep - it arrived Friday morning.

Before contacting you i found one site here that i could order it from at about a third more in price & the delivery estimate was two weeks (10 days longer than you ) .

I think I'll have a major dilema where to get my Nessa CDs in the future!!!

An exceptional CD by the way , when i logged on to the net after my first listen the first two words i typed into the search engine were Fred Hopkins.
